Compressed Shive made from Scandanavian birch.
The taper on these Shives is arrived at by taking a straight sided cylindrical blank and compressing the taper on. This has the advantage over turned wooden and moulded plastic alternatives in that it has a greater capacity to swell when wet, thereby effecting a better seal, particularly in a damaged bush.
Our standard size is 52.5mm x 17.4mm (2 1/16" x 11/16"), however these compressed Shives can be supplied in a large variety of different sizes (see table).
